BILLY BOY WINS WINTER STEEPLES YORK HANDICAP TO MANAWHENUA Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Auckland Racing Club’s Great Northern Steeplechase meeting concluded at Ellcrslio to-day in brilliantly fine weather. After threo days’ rain the course was very heavy as a consequence. There .was a good attendance and the totalisator investments for tho day amounted to £29,433 as compared with £30,511 10s for the third day last year, the decrease being £7O7S 10s. The total for the mooting was £109,25S as compared with £136,97S 10s last year, representing a decrease of £27,090 10s. TAMAKI STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, of 225 sovs; about 21 miles. 1 TOWN BEAUTY, 10.7 (F. Thompson) 1 2 Monetize, 11.2 (Rennie) - 0 Absent, 9.4 (L. Dulicu) 3 Also started: 3 Carlaris 9.9, 5 Day Lark 9.4, 4 Royal Reign car. 9.51. Won by eight lengths, one furlong. Time, 5.25. Town Beauty early assumed the lead and jumping beautifully won with ridiculous ease. The placed horses were the only ones to finish, the others all falling, Day Lark coming to grief when challenging Monetize for second at the last fence. ORAKEI HURDLES HANDICAP, of 255 sovs; about 1J miles. 4 BOYAL VISITOR, 9.0 (J. McRae) 1 3 Paddon, 10.8 (Rennie) - 11 Biform, 10. J. (Burgess) 3 Also started: 9 Neil 10. S, 5 Balloon 10.0, S Patutahi 10.5, 7 Fcrnden 9.12, 12 Cargcn 9.10, 1 Appledoro 9.5, 2 High Commissioner 9.7, 0 Trowbridge 9.0, JO Cat-i-mes 9.0, 13 Kia lloromai car. 9.2. Won by two lengths, three-quarters of a length. Time, 3.31 3-5. Royal Visitor was first over the initial obstacle and passing the stand was attended by High Commissioner, Fernden, Cat-i-mes and Biform, High Commissioner fell at tho fcnco near the six furlong post. Royal Visitor jumped well and led into the straight from Biform and Paddon. The leader easily held the position after crossing tho last hurdle whero Patutahi fell. Paddon finished stronger than Biform. Appledorc was fourth. YORK HANDICAP, of 550 sovs; one mile. 2 MANAWHENUA, 9.1 (K. Voitrc) I 0 Sunny Sky, 10.3 (Wiggins) .... 2 1 Historic, 10.3 (B. 11. Won by a length, a head. Time, 1.46 i 2-5. Silvermine was smartest away followed by Sunny Sky and Manawlienua. •lmamint joined Silvermine in tho lead round the turn, this pair leading into the straight from Manawlienua, Sunny Sky, Catoma, Little Doubt and Lucy Rose. Manawhenua finished best in me run home to win nicely. Historic and Little Doubt also made strong finishing runs, there being little between them wlen passing the judge, Little Doubt being fourth. WINTER STEEPLES, of 050 sovs; about 3 miles. 3 BILLY BOY, 10.11 (Burgess) .. 1 3 Luccss, 9.J2 (A. E. Ellis) ..... 2 1 Copcy, 9.11 (Tucker) 3 Also started: 6 Landmark 11.0, 11 Wiltshire 10.JJ, 10 Paris 10.5, 7 Claremore 10.2, 5 Nukumai 10.0. 9 Master
Lu 9.12, 2 Callamart 9.11, 13 Kamcliameha car. 9.3, 8 Slump 9.0, 12 Jen car. 9.1. Won by four lengths, seven lengths. Time, 6.25. Paris and Lucess led over the water jump but the former fell at the six furlong post, leaving Lucess in charge from Callamart, Master Lu and Nukumai. The Jatter assumed the lead beforo the stand double, Jen, Callamart, Lucess and Master Lu following.. Copey was last at this stage. Billy Boy improved his position going up tho hill where Nukumai and Callamart fell at the first fence and Claremorc at the second. Billy Boy was then in command, followed by Lucess and Copcy and they finished in that order, Billy Boy having a comfortable win. Master Lu was fourth just in front of Landmark. CAMPBELL HURDLES, of 400 sovs;
two miles. 1 HIGH PITCH, 10.0 (Mcllroy) .. 3 5 Cruachan, 10.4 (Ecnnic) 2 0 Nassouk, 9.0 (Turner) 3 Also started: 2 Mako Up 11.7, 3 Luminary 10.4, S Easterly 10.2, 7 Advance Camp 9.7, 4 Arch Eagle 9.7. Won by three lengths, 24 lengths. Time 4.0.
Arch Eagle held a lead of two lengths passing the stand from High Pitch, Luminary, Cruaclmn and Make Up. High Pitch went to the front along the back and had a lead of six lengths entering the straight from Nassoek, Cruachan, Arch Eagle and Luminary. The last-named fell at the wst fence and High Pitch was never troubled to win by three lengths. Easterly was fourth. VISITORS’ HANDICAP, of 350 sovs; six furiongs.

J 3 King Ford, 8.1 (Kecsing) .... 2 9 Tradesman, 9.0 (McTavish) .... 3 Also started: 10 Consent 10.2, 1 Huntingdon 10.2, 7 Refresher 9.1, 2 Chromadvnc 8.0, 8 The Tiger 8.0, 12 Hampton Park 5.2, 13 White Fang car. 5.3, 0 AIJ Humbug 8.0, 15 Free Air, 11 Werata S.O, 14 Princess Bede car. 5.2 J, 10 Alpina, 4 Royal Bengal 8.0. Won by five lengths, a neck. Time. 1.19.
Werata, Huntingdon, Hampton Park and Tradesman w'crc smartest away but Consent had run to tho front before reaching the top bend. King Ford displaced Consent in the lead rounding tho bend and then followed Lord Val, Refresher, Tradesman and Huntingdon. Once the field straightened up Lord Val made hacks of the rest. There was a good tussle for second place. Consent was fourth. CARBINE PLATE, of 225 sovs; one mile. 1 SENESCHAL, 11.4 (Duncan) .. 1 2 Protomint, 11.4 (Rowan) 2 3 Beacon Fire, 11.0 3 Also started: 12 Booklaw, 7 Grand Spirit, 11 Miss Albyn, 15 On Approval, 14 Professor, 8 Royal Survey, 13 Sports King, 10 Sub Editor, 0 Valueless, 5 Woodfull 11.4, 4 Icimint, 9 Makkill 11.0. Won by five lengths, a neck. Time, 1.51. Seneschal, Sub Editor and Valueless were the leaders along tho back but rounding the turn Grand Spirit went up. Valueless was in command entering the straight but he ran very wide leaving Seneschal to go on and win easily. Protomint put in a good run in the straight to take second money from Beacon Fire. Sub Editor was fourth. The stewards held an inquiry into the handling of Make Up by O’Connor in the Campbell Hurdles and decided to accept the rider’s explanation.
