Historic Castle Blaze

Documents of historic interest and importance were threatened by a fire discovered recently at Clitheroo Castle offices, in Lancashire. There are preserved there records of property in large areas of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The fire started apparently, from a beam i na chimney which must have been smouldering for the greater part of tho day. Tho firo brigade had to smash their way through two doors and tho found the staircase ablaze. Difficulty was experienced in getting water, and a chain of bucket carriers was formed from a trough some distrncc from the offices. The Nonnan keep was newer in danger.
