Tivoli

•'BIG BUSINESS GIRL” "Big Business Girl,” with beautiful Loretta Young in the title role, was enthusiastically received by the audience at the Tivoli theatro last evening. The story on which the picture is based appeared first as a serial in a popular magazine and then as a best-selling novel, so that the characters aro already well known. That they have permanent entertainment value is proved by their triple success. Miss Young plays the captivating heroine, Mac, a college girl, who is undecided between her love for Johnnie Saunders, leader of tho university orchestra, and an unquenchable desire to win a career for herself in the world of big business. Johnnie sails to Paris with his orchestra for the summer, after finding himself unable to dissuade her from her ambition. Mac goes to Now York and, after discouraging weeks, lauds a job in an advertising agency, not on her merits, but because Clayton, tho big boss, likes her looks. Johnnie unexpectedly returns from Paris to be with Mac, whom he has clandestinely married. They quarrel and part. Without Johnnie’s knowledge Mac uses influential friends she has won through her acquaintance with Clayton to h.olp> her alienated husband to win success in tho musical world. Clayton proposes marriage! Johnnie storms; a catty patroness of the young husband connives; Clayton tells tho unhappy girl that Johnnie plans a divorce; a clever co-respondent appears on the scene; and the story climbs up to an unexpected but gratifying climax. Miss Young, who is supported by a cast of fine ability, is at her best as the big business girl who finds herself so feminine, after all, when confronted with tho bigger issues of life. The screening to-morrow will bo “Shipmates,” starring Robert Montgomery and Dorothy Jordan. A picture with loads of fun and loads of thrills. A matinee will bo held at 2.30 p.m.
