Enjoyable Tennis Ball at Cheltenham

A ball arranged by the Cheltenham Tennis Club and held in the public hall on Friday evening was attended by the success usual to local functions and was enjoyed to the utmost by tho many patrons who journeyed from all parts of the district to bo present. Ferns* hydrangeas and greenery were used to beautify the. hall, and the club’s colours with tennis racquets were also effectively worked into tho decorations. Mesdames E. Sinclair, 11. Brookcr, Branch and Miss E. Sinclair were responsible for the supper room, which was a delight to behold with its gracefully festooned streamers of black and gold, the club’s colours, and its quantities of lovely and deftly arranged autumn leaves and flowers. The ladies of tho club worked particularly hard to make the ball a success, and to them much credit must be given. Mesdames Brookcr, Braueli, Newell, Corkill and Misses Barrow and Sinclair ably supported Mrs. E. Sinclair, who was a hostess in herself, and other members of the club also rendered valuable assistance. Mr. Gus Large and his Aces, of Palmerston North, were musicians and contributed the brightest of dance numbers. Mr. A. Robertson made an efficient M.C. and Mr. H. Wood officiated ns doorkeeper. Miss Vincent and Mr. Hayden were tho winners of the spot waltz, while Miss B. Pettitt and Mr. Wyn Jones carried off the prizes for the Monte Carlo w’altz. A very handsome cushion, made and presented for competition by Mrs. H. Brooker, was won by Mrs. Arthur. All present were enchanted by an exhibition of tap dancing given by the well-known danseuse, Miss Gwenth Mac-naughtan, of Palmerston North. Under the guidance of its very able president, Mr. E. Sinclair, and untiring secretary, Mr. E. Robertson, the Cheltenham Tennis Club contiuues to thrive and gives promise of becoming an important factor among country tennis clubs.'"
