The gift of the Waitangi Estate by their Excellencies Lord arid Lady Bledisloe to the people of New Zealand has awakened a sense of profound admiration in the minds of the Maori people, said Mr 11. D. Bennett to-day. He had the authority of the Bishop of Aotearoa, ho said, to say on behalf of the Native race that the announcement of the gift had stirred the imagination of the Maori people throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand. In tho political field Waitangi was the star in their firmament. For their worthy and thoughtful act their Excellencies’ names would ever retain a warm place in tho hearts < * this and future generations of the native race.
