Both men are stated to have beer, on tho correct side of the road and Thompson, not having a light on his bicycle, for safety rode off the bitumen on to tho sand track alongside. It is stated that when the car overtook the men it swerved off on tho lefthand side of the road, knocking Thompson off his bicycle and injuring his left arm. After tho impact the ear skidded along on tho sand and grass distance of about three chains before it pfilled up. There was no other traffic on the road at the time, and the driver of the car subsequently took Thompson back to his home at Motuiti. Thompson, who sustained a badly lacerated arm and shock, was later taken into Foxton and, after receiving attention from Dr. Wyllie, was removed to the Palmerston, North, Hospital, . -
