B Class Stations

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I was much interested in “Listener's" letter re local broadcasts published in a recent issue of your paper. Tho action of the authorities must surely bo governed by grave reasons Of titate as it is really no more and no less than interference iu a • purely private arrangement. Many of us using low powered sets find that wero it not for B class stations, the license fee would not be worth paying.

We must however subsidise the A class in order that wc may be allowed to derive tho bonelit of tho former. One would therefore imagine that local broadcasters would be encouraged but evidently tho ways of tho mighty are not as our ways. In view of tho uniform excellence of 2ZO’s transmissions and tho action of Mr. Kyle in sacrificing his holiday hours to provide a service when no other station is available I shall be most pleased to associate myself with any movement which may be initiated for the purpose of elucidating the mystery and doing justice to our local station. Herein I do not speak for myself alone. In what direction are events trending? The matter under discussion, the refusal of permission to “broadcast.” Short wave club news and tho decidedly casual distribution of preference cards —I have not been able to procure one at the local office nor as far as I am aware, havo any arrived yet. Such solicitude for listeners’ interests is pathetj,’-—I am, etc. KEN CARMON, Waituna West.
