Trying to Improve Broadcast Service
COVERAGE COMMISSION VISITS PALMERSTON NORTH. Tho Commission appointed to investigate radio coverago problems in Now Zealand —Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, of the Scientific and Industrial Research Department, and Mr. A, Gibbs, M.1.E.F., Chief Telegraph Engineer of tho Post and Telegraph Department —visited Palmerston North yesterday, meeting listeners in tho studib of tho Manawatu Radio Club’s station, 2ZF. Mr. W. A. Waters, president of tho club, presented a statement regarding reception in Palmerston North of tho YA stations, and a general discussion followed. Mr. Gibbs outlined tho duties of the Commission, aud the information they wero seeking, especially regarding signal strength, distortion and fading. All thoso present at tho meeting unanimously approved of the outlino of reception conditions in the district, given by Mr. Waters. Tho Commissioners asked many questions relating to daylight reception of tho YA stations and it was agreed that thcro was no fault to find with 2YA (Wellington) in daylight. Subsequent discussions of various observations regarding broadcasts were uniquo in that in every caso those present always agreed with tho statements made, showing that tho opinions expressed had been well considered. To-day the Commissioners visit Feilding, Marton, Huntorvillo and Taihape. Prior to arriving in Palmerston North, tho Commissioners visited Otaki, Levin, Shannon and Foxton.
