Sandown and Eangihau Fill the Places McDonald Handicap to La Campione Tlio Manawatu Trotting Club’s popular fixture was held on the Ashhurst racecourse yesterday in ideal weather. The attendance was good and there was some interesting racing with a number erf exciting finishes. Tho track was in great order. The chief event of the day, the Manawatu Trotting Club Plate, was won by the outsider of the field, Highland Derby, which scored from Sandown and Rangihau to pay a long price. The McDonald Handicap was won hy the Hawera-trained La Campione, the second place-getter, Summertime, tiring over the last bit. The tcfcalisator handled £3949 diming the clay as against £3784 for the extra meeting held last May, showing an increase of £165 10s. The investments last Anniversary Day, however, amounted to £6060.
