Revolutionary Year
millinery history “MARIE STUART.” The year 1931 will certainly bo recorded as tho most revolutionary year in millinery fashion history. New hats havo flashed across the horizon with such bewildering rapidity that one has hardly chronicled a style as the mode of tho moment when along comes a new shape that puts all others in the background. An interesting feature of these new hats is that with very few exceptions they arc enchantingly becoming, also it is possible this year to buy several attractive hats for tho price wo have in former years paid for ono model. I still think the tricorne (of which there arc many versions) is tho most universally becoming of all tho tilted shapes, and naturally it has become so popular that it has long ceased to bo considered an exclusive fashion. Unlike tlio “bowler” hat,, winch took the town by storm, but which was hard and unflattering and died a rapid death, tlic tricorne still appeals probably because it suits older women as tvell as tho young and beautiful. Tho “Marie Stuart” is a hat with a beautiful line. The crown is shallow but sets cosily on the head, with a brim that is simply round at tho nape of the neck that, waves slightly at the sides until it forms a deep dip over the right eyebrow. This hat lends itself to a little restrained trimming, very simple on top, like a twist of ribbon, or a single pheasant’s quill encircling the crown and loops of ribbon, or close feather mounts tucked under tho brim on the slight bandeau.
