Miss Mavis Cookslcy, of Lyndhurst street, is at present on holiday with friends in Auckland and Hamilton.

Mrs J. J. McErlc&n and family have returned to Wanganui after a holiday spent, with Mrs I. O’Hagan, Eeid’s Lino, Bannythorpc.

Miss Myrtle- (Jill) Fabling, of-Palm-erston North, accompanied by Mrs. Howe and daughter, of Hawora, left by the Ulimaroa for Sydney yesterday.

Mrs J. Hanley and Miss Kathleen Hanley, have returned to Blenheim after spending their holiday at Bunnytliorpe, where they wore the guests of Mrs o’Hagan.

Very promising support is being received in tho effort to form a ladies’ singing circle in Palmerston North and a meeting has been called for Wednesday next at 3 p.m. in Mr. J. Garde Grirnshaw’s studio to finalise arrangements. All who can sing arc urged to attend this mooting.

In honour of Miss Stubbs’ birthday, a “surprise party” visited tho residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Stubbs, Ferguson street, on Thursday evening. Thoro were some twenty-one guests, and a jolly evoning was spent with music, competitions and games. At a suitable interval Mr. H. Thompson, offered Miss Stubbs tho congratulations of all present. The party broke up shortly after midnight.

A very pleasant afternoon was spent, by those who attended the bridge party arranged to augment tho funds’ of the Y.W.C.A. and held in tho big room at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghamo’s yesterday. There was a very good attendance and afternoon tea . provided an enjoyable break in proceedings. At the conclusion of play, it was announced that tho prizewinners were Mrs. H. Brown (hignest score) and Miss Horsfall (hidden number). Trophies were kindly donated by Mrs. E. G. Barnett and Mrs. Noel West.
