Id a special report of September last, the “Advertiser’s Weekly” of Great Britain supplies an analysis of information received from a representative selection of national advertisers. The returns show that of all the advertisers who have supplied information: 48 per cent, are increasing thew appropriation by an average of 20 per cent.
39 per cent, are maintaining their advertising expenditure at much the same level; and 13 per cent, are reducing their advertising expenditure, the average decrease being 15 per cent. The firms increasing their appropriations are, in most cases, suppliers of necessities or secondary luxuries. The trades they embrace arc: Pharmaceutical products, cereals, motor-cars, household cleansers, toothpastes, life insurance, surgical appliances, paints and varnishes, outfitters, tailors and home electrical equipment.
