ANNUAL SCHOOL PICNIC. Although Wednesday morning dawned overcast and threatening it was not long before the sun broko through the clouds to shino brilliantly throughout, tho day while a cooling breeze luckily came up to temper tho heat that would otherwise have proved somewhat trying. Soon after 10 o’clock a steady stream, of heavily laden cars was to be seen spreading towards Feilding finally coming to a halt at tho favourite picnic ground, Johnston Park. In a short space of time the adults had comfortably settled themselves beneath tho umbrageous trees that grace tho river’s bank, the younger members of tho gathering finding entertainment in bathing and on the swings, toboggan, etc. with which tho grounds are provided. After the many good things supplied by the ladies for lunch had been done full justice to a sports programme was carried out under tho direction of Mr. Enos Christian, chairman of the school committee, assisted by Messrs. C. Christian and J. Watherston to whom tho handicapping was assigned and Messrs. J. W. Parsons and A. Callingham w r ho acted as judges. During tho day soft drinks, sweets and fruit wl:re distributed among tho youngsters by whom they were much appreciated. As tho afternoon wore on and grew warmer tho river was much sought by the young folk who keenly enjoyed a good swim. At 4 o’clock the picnickers were quito ready for afternoon tea, hampers were therefore once more unpacked and their toothsome contents distributed among the gathering. Round about 5 o’clock a start was made for home all having spent an exceptionally happy day. ■ Tho sports programme was as follows: Flat Races—Girls under S years: Phyllis Robertson 1, Betty Macfarlane 2, Grace Marshall 3. Boys Under 8: Warren Christian 1, Graham Hooper 2, Jimmy Parsons 3. Girls under 12: Jean Christian 1, Iris Craino 2, Margaret Dermer 3. Boys under 12: Graham Miles 1, Reggio Humphrey 2, Ralph Hooper 3. Girls over 12: Nola Jefferies 1, Jean Groves 2, Zona Jefferies 3. Boys over 12: Reggie Humphrey 1, Ronnio Humphrey 2, Ken Parsons 3. Tiny girls race: Melvie Mills 3, Irene Christian 2, Lyra Christian 3. Girls’ 3-legged race: Jean McDowall and Jean Groves 1, Iris Craine and Zena Jefferies 2, Jean Christian and Phillys Robertson 3. Boys’ 3-legged race: Errol Craino and Ronnie Humphrey 1, Teddy and Robin Turner 2, Reggie Humphrey and Herbert Mills 3. Tyre race: Dick Marshall 1, Errol Craine 2, Reggie Humphrey 3. Young ladies’ race: Miss Jean Stuai;tMoray 1, Miss Ngaire Jefferies 2, Misses Ruth Marshall and Gladys Robertson 3 Married ladies’

His many friends will regret to learn that Mr. Brew is an inmate of the Feilding private hospital having sustained a broken leg as the result of a bad fall.
