Communist Outbreak in Salvador
WARSHIPS FOR PROTECTION OF NATIONALS, United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 9.50 p.tn. WASHINGTON, Jan. 23. A Communist revolutionary movement of serious proportions in El Salvador led to-day to the despatch of British, Canadian and American vessels for the protection of the lives of foreign resi dents. The United States Charge d’Affairs (Mr. McCafferty) informed the State Department, that the Italian ConsulGeneral had appealed for the protection of his nationals end the British Charge had concurred in the view that the despatch of naval vessels to the scene might prevent “much bloodshed.”
The United States ordered a cruiser and two destroyers to Acajugia or an adjacent port. The British Embassy and the Canadian Legation informed the' State Department, that. a. British cruiser was proceeding to El Salvador and two Canadian destroyers which were near thore had put in to Acajugia. Fighting is reported in the cities of Santa Tecla and Sonsonati where the railway is reported to be torn up by the Communists.
