Special to Times. WANGANUI, Last Night. The J Ith annual general meeting of tho New Zealand Croquet Association was held at the Wanganui Croquet Club's pavilion on St. John’s Hill last night, when over 100 representatives from all parts of New Zealand were present. Owing to the ill-health and absence in England of the president, the Von. Archdeacon Creed Meredith, and his consequent resignation, Mrs. Rhodes Williams, Christchurch, vicepresident of the association, presided. Reference was made by Mrs. Williams to the Joss of the president, and also to the loss through death of Mr. C. A. E. Ferguson, their esteemed secretary and treasurer. Through these losses the executive had been reduced to two, but Mr. Spooner, a former secretary, had filled Mr. Ferguson’s position, and clubs had been circularised

regarding (lie position. Mrs. Williams made the proposal that the New Zealand croquet championships should be held in the North and South Islands alternately, at Wanganui in the North, and Christchurci. in tho South. The matter will be discussed at a, meeting of the Croquet Council this evening. A matter, which in the opinion of members will have to be referred by delegates back to their clubs, was th« proposal to publish a Croquet Gazette. It was felt that such a publication would bo helpful, but finance would ha,vc to be carefully considered. It was «, matter for congratulation, said the acting president, that the entries this year were so excellent, 264 altogether. Although last year, entries for the open championship constituted a record (24), this year there were IV. For the ladies’ champion 28, level singles 23, championship doubles 34, handicap doubles 92 and handicap singles 72.

It was stated that an endeavour would be made to give practical demonstrations by experts of knotty points in the rules, a.t this and succeeding tournaments.
