VOLUNTARY BASIS OF WAR LOAN CONVERSION. LONDON, Sept. 2. The Stock Exchange exhibits a more confident tone, following the oiileial announcement that the forthcoming War loan conversion will be purely voluntary, also that fixed interest-bear-ing securities will not be singled out for taxation.
111-Informed Resolution PRIME MINISTER NOT READY TO SURRENDER SEAHAM. LONDON, Sept. 2. Mr Ramsay MacDonald, in a letter to the Seaham executive of the Labour Party, regrets its resolution recommending that he be asked to resign his seat (the Seaham division of Durham). He states that the resolution was passed in ignorance of the facts. “The position of my colleagues and myself,” the Prime Minister adds, “was dictated by a determination to maintain maximum standards of living and pay. Any action that I take in response to any resolution will be only ‘after I have finished my present duty.”
