First Official Map Of Palmerston City
INTRODUCES NEW FEATURES. ALSO REVEALS RAPID GROWTH OF A PROGRESSIVE CEJNTKE. Revealing the large number of new streets, recent sub-divisions and the city’s expansion to the outlying suburbs generally, the first official map of the City of Palmerston North has just been completed and issued t>y the Lands and Survey Department. This is the only map of its kind undertaken for this centre by the department sinco 1024 and the short period of seven years exemplifies in no uncertain manner the rapid growth and development of the thriving capital of the Manawatu. A large amount of the information required for such a chart was supplied and checked by the Palmerston .North city engineer’s department and even minor details were attended to with the greatest regard for accuracy. Five conspicuous colours arc employed to mark tho various boundaries and to denote other details and on a scale of 10 chains to the inch, the resultant map presents a handsome appearance on its lithographic paper, mounted and ready for office use. There is an accompanying index to streets and public buildings while tho many parks—with their Maori names—aro prominently marked. . -An innovation is the marking giving an approximate indication of the direction of house numbering in all the larger streets while, proving that the map is thoroughly up-to-date, tho new swimming baths at the Hokowhitu and West End schools and the Manawatu Rugby Union’s ground in Park road—virtually recent acquisitions to the city —figure ou tho chart.
