HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. A special meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held on Thursday evening when the president (Mr. D. Christie) presided over a good attendance of members. The chairman explained that the meeting had been called for the purp'ose of considering the advisability or otherwise of carrying on the exhibition this .year as usual. If it was thought that owing to present conditions, the shows should not be held this year, then the only alternative was for the society to go into recess for 12 months.

After the matter had been discussed at some length, Mr. J. K. Hornblow moved that the society carry on with the spring show as usual and be guided by the results of this show as to whether it was advisable to continue for the remainder of the season. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. Chrystall. As an amendment, Miss Ross Ross moved, seconded by Mr. N. Cresswell, that the society go into recess for 12 months. On being put to the meeting, however, the amendment was lost and Mr. Hornblow’s motion was subsequently carried. Additional appointments of judges and officials were made as under: Bulbs, Mr. A. J. Shailerj cut flowers, Mr. Aggett; cookery, Mr. M. E. Perreau; needlework, Miss Ross (subject to consent); ticket seller, Mr. Jas. Ross; door-keep-ers, Mr. A. Robinson (afternoon), Mr. T. Hughes and Rev. Preston (evening). A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
