Manawatu Bowling, Tennis and Croquet
ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB.
Tho Manawatu Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club held its annual meeting last night in the pavilion on tho club’s grounds. Mr. J. B. Uerrand, president, was in tho chair.
In speaking to the report and bal ancc-sheet, the chairman said the season had panned out not so badly considering the weather experienced and financial depression. During the year tho linanciai committee had effected economies. Loss in subscriptions had amounted to £27 16s, while general receipts went down about £lO. However, as the statement of expenditure and receipts showed, tho club had pulled through with the small debit of £6, while over £5 had come to hand since the statement was prepared. The biggest expenditure had been the purchase of a niutor-m |.i or. The club had spent something like £IOOO in the way of improvements to the grounds and that money could not bo shown in the bal-ance-sheet 'as an asset. J Mr. J. G. Radford referred to this expenditure as a gift to the City Council, who owned the property. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Three new members were elected. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, the Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford); president, Mr. J. B. Gerrand; vice-president, Mr. W. Bates; lion, secxetary and treasurer, Mr. E. D. Smiiiie. Bowling: Committee, ’ Messrs. Cockburn, King, Onlcy, Bates (secretary); bowling selector, Mr. J. lvershaw; delegates to Bowling Centre, Messrs. Gerrand and Hunter; green supervisor, Mr. J. Kershaw.
Croquet: President, Mrs. Corbridge; committee, Mesdaiiios Robertson, Radford, Glendinning; tea committee, Mcsd&mes Fuller, Spin ley, Spring; delegates to Croquet Centre, Mesdaincs Corbridge and Robertson; secretary, Mrs. H. Sinclair; greeu supervisor, Mr. J. W. Robertson.
The tennis section was granted permission to nominate its officers at a later date. ,
Members spoke in appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the president during the tlrco years ho had held office and the meeting accorded him musical honours, Mr. Gerrand was appointed a general green supervisor. Mr. W. Hunter was appointed auditor and accorded a vote of thanks for past services. Members spoke in appreciation of the work of the secretary, who was also accorded a vote of thanks. The opening day was fixed for October 10 and it will be prefaced by a social and dance. A strong committco was set up to organise the function. Mr. Cutler voiced an objection to the extra charge of Is for “caretaker, charged by the Manawatu Bowling Centre for its tournaments. He moved a recommendation to the Centre that it be abolished. Tho matter was referred to the club’s delegates to the Centre.
