The Tivoli
“LADIES LOVE BRUTES.” Cameramen took perilous chances in getting photographic material for the earlier scenes in George Bancroft’s newest starring Paramount . vehicle, “Ladies Love Brutes.” In this picture, Bancroft plays the role of a structural steel worker, who becomes a contractor, and flirts with society, after lie has made his money. Cameramen took
thrilling shots from several of New York’s tallest new building operations, where narrow stool girders provided the only available footing, many hundreds of feet above the street^level. In this film, based on the Zoe Atkins play, “Pardon My Glove,” Bancroft is seen and heard as the structural stool worker who becomes a successful contractor, and, fortified by his new-made wealth, tries to break into high society. As a “steel monkey” Bancroft had to learn how to throw and catch red-hot rivets. The catching end of the trick was easy enough, but the big film hero had trouble in finding fellow players willing enough to attempt ,to receive tho tosses of the lucky amateur. After much practice, Bancroft could toss them with the veterans. Tho screening tomorrow' will be “Half Way to Heaven,” starring Charles Rogers and Jean Arthur.
