Big Hunt

FOR MYSTERY BEAST. CANDELO, (N.S.W.), July 21. Settlers in the Tantawanglo Mountains, out from Caudelo, are organising a hunt for the huge cat-like animal that has terrified a dozen people in the last two years. Some declare it is a tiger, and others that it is a lioness or a lion, but no one has yet waited long enough to examine it carefully. The latest to get a glimpse of- it is Mr Eric Britten, son of a farmer in the Tantawanglo Hills. lie was setting rabbit traps along the Tantawanglo Greek, which flows into the Bega river, when his horse tethered-nearby, suddenly bolted. Mr Britten looked up and saw what he declares was a great tawny-coloured cat crouching a few yards away. The animal stood fully three feet six inches high, according to Mr Britten. It had a large, round head, which it carried like a cat, drooped below its shoulders. Tho following day Mr Britten anl a party found tracks made by cat-like paws as large as the palm of a man’s hand.
