Divorces Granted
SEPARATION AND DESERTION ALLEGED. Soveral undefended petitions for divorce came before tho Hon. Mr. Justice Reed at the Palmerston North Supreme Court on Saturday, Mary Ann Iskirka (Mr. Onglcy) petitioned for divorce froni James Thos. Iskirka on tho grounds of separation for more than three years. Petitioner stated in evidence that she married respondent in August 20, 1927, at Palmerston North. They resided together for about two months when respondent left her and she commenced separation proceedings. This order was granted on November 21, 1927, sineo when they had not lived together. David Dilks, son of petitioner, corroborated his mother's evidence that tho parties had not lived together since tho separation order was made. His Honour granted a decree nisi to bo mado absolute after three months.
Maud Hannah Murdoch (Mr. Cooper) sought divorce on the grounds of desertion by her husband William George Murdoch. Petitioner said they were married on May 1, 1911, and lived at Palmerston North till Pobruary 1, 1923. Four children were boni of the union. Respondent had treated her cruelly and sbo obtained a separation order in the Magistrate's Court. Subsequently they made,an attempt to live together again for the sake of the children but rospondeut was again cruel to her and the children us well.. One morning in June, 1927, ho struck her and ordered her and her sick children out of the house. They went to a neighbour’s and later when respondent left the house she secured her things and went away. Since then she had never had any maim tcnanco froni her husband and he had even been sent to prison for failure to support her. Tho eldest son of petitioner corroborated his mother’s evidence, and his Honour granted a decree nisi to be moved absolute after three months. Petitioner was given custody of the children.
Alex. Janies H. Bidden, engineer, of Mastcrton (Mr. Marsack); pleaded fail 1 ufo on the part of his wifo to comply with an order for restitution of conjugal rights, when petitioning for divorce from Elsie Emma Briden. In evidenco petitioner said ho was married on April 4, 1912, They lived in Mast Orton and had no children. In March, 1931, ho applied for an order from tho Court that his wife, who had left him, should return within 30 days, but she had not come back. A decree nisi to bo made absolute after three months was granted. - :
Desertion was alleged by Ckas. John Adams, motor importer, of Palmerston North (Mr. Cooper), when petitioning for divorce from. Letitia Florenco Adams. He said ho was married bn August 23, 1915, at Timaru and they had lived in Palmerston North up to October 20, 192(1. There were no children. Prior to the last-mentioned date his wifo had intimated her intention of clearing out and finally did so, going to Sanson. Witness wroto to her and went and saw her but Mrs. Adams said she would not live with him any more. Albert Manley, of Palmerston North, said respondent was a relative of hfs and witness knew she hud left Adams. A decree nisi to be made absolute after three months, was granted. Annie Allison (Mr. McGregCr) alleged desertion by Alfred Allison whom she married on April 27, 1910. There were two children of the marriage. Rcr spondent went to tho war in 1914 arid returned in 1915 suffering from war injuries. He went to Napier for treatment and on return lived with hor for a week. Ho then went to Wcllingtdn and in 1919 he rang her up on the telephone stating he was going to (Sydney. He wroto her once from there but not during the last ten years. Neither had she received any maintenance during that time. Richard Hoarc, of Palmerston North, brother-in-law of petitioner, told tho Court that for ten years Mrs. Allison had lived alone. A decree nisi was granted to be mado absolute after three months.
Separation for more than three years Was pleaded by Thos. Ambroso Tarrant, df Wellington, schoolmaster (Mr. Cooper), who married Margaret Jane Tarrant in Now South Wales in 1397. Seyen years ago petitioner said he came to New Zealaud being, at tho time, separated from his wife. Later she came to tho Dominion and they endeavoured to livo together again. However, on May 7, 1926, they parted again, Mrs. Tarrant going away to Australia. Witness had allowed her £S per month. A decree nisi to be made absolute after three mouths, was granted.
