Nelson College Celebrates Seventy-fifth Anniversary
SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY Per Press Association. NELSON, Last Night. The largo assembly hall of Nelson College was well filled to-day, when visiting old boys were accorded a hearty welcome to the 75th anniversary reunion. Mr. C. H. Broad, principal of the college, said old students would notice great changes in the school over a number of years, the latest being the erection of houses for boarders, which he considered marked a new era in the school’s history as a boarding institution. Mr. F. Hamilton, chairman of the Council of Governors, thanked tho old boys for their loyalty to their old school and thanked the old boys for sending their sons to the school of th6ir fathers. The college was now the largest boarding college of its kind in the Dominion. Mr. W. C. Harley, president of the Old Boys’ Association, returned thanks for tho welcome. Sports matches of various kinds took place in the afternoon. The greatest enthusiasm marked the reunion. The Old Boys Association in various parts, of New Zealand was well represented. At the smoke concert the principal speakers were Messrs W. C. Harley (president), A. Fair, K.C., C. H. Board, F. Milner, C.M.G., F. Hamilton and Dr. Evans (Canterbury College). Three original pupils, John Black, H. J. Lewis (Nelson) and T. Harley (Wellington) have attended the reunion.
