Gaol for Relief Workers
• CLASH WITH POLICE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The police and five young relief workers, the latter all more or less drunk, were concerned in a fracas on Thursday evening. The five men were sent to gaol when they appeared at the Police Court on Saturday. Three counts were brought against Sydney John Ball, labourer, aged 28. Ho was charged with being disorderly and drunk, resisting the police and causing mischief by wilfully damaging a taxi. He pleaded guilty and was sent to gaol for 14 days. The following were each sentenced to three drfys in gaol for obstructing the police in the execution of their duty: Alexander Stewart MacMillan, seaman, aged 29; Ernest Walter Briggs, labourer, aged 33; Richard Llewellyn Lucas, labourer, aged 21; Joseph Shannon, labourer, aged 23.
