Progress Reported Per Press Association. NAPIER, Last Night. The weather to-night is lino with tho sea ruffed by a slight easterly. Two moderate shocks were felt today, at G. 40 p.m. and another at■•B.4c p.m. A few minor shocks were also felt by some. Street lighting is ' being further extended and the water and seweragesystem is still receiving attention. Electric current is now available for a few houses after the testing of the old wiring proving satisfactory Much progress is being made in clearing the sites and there arc indications that further bodies remain to be discovered in one or two localities. No attempt has yet been made to clear the breakwater read. Some unnecessary ilarni was felt concerning the rivers, one rising rapidly to-day because a dam had burst higher up. However, the water got away quietly and tho River Board’s overseer is satisfied there is no danger from that quarter. During lino weather the work of diverting -.the Tutaokuri is proceeding and that river will soon dischargo at tho washout, saving the river course of live miles. Water was going down the new channel to-day. The following telegram has beer: sent to tho Prime Minister by Mr. Barnard, the member for Napier:— “Tho big question of what measures aro to bo taken,, and when, for the restoration of the earthquake is becoming increasingly important and urgent. After much thought, and consultation with numerous constituents, I desire to recommend for your favourable consideration that tho Government immediately caus3 comprehensive arrangements to be made for the ascertainment of tnc total loss suffered through the earthquake and lire; that a commission or other suitable body be set up immediately to investigate and advise as to tho best methods for the rehabilitation of tho carthquako area. “I urge that both steps aro necessary so that Parliament may have sufficient facts and advice beforo it when tho coming session begins to consider, and decide on, the measures to be adopted for the restoration of the district.”
