School Break-up and Farewell

TO MR. C. W. BIGGINS On Friday afternoon the Rongotsa school licld its annual break-up and prize giving ceremony. Mr L. H. Yarrall, in presenting each cliild with a prize, spoke of tlio advantages of the pupils attending the scliool and referred to tho well kept and spacious playing area. Special prizes for the best local leaded calves wore-won by May Bottcher 1, E. Mossop 2, Violet Bottcher 3. Best typo of calf: Stella Duke. Calf rearing prizes for tho whole district: Janies Duke 3rd, May Bottcher 4th. Mr F. Burgess' special prizes for mangold growing (weight): Ronald Hill 1, Sydney Burgess 2. School committee's special for best kept crop: Syd Burgess. Mrs C. W. Liggins' special for sewing: Olivo Bottcher 1, Ailsa Buchanan Dorothy Mathesou then presented Mr and Mrs Liggins, who are going to Wanganui, with a handsome silver mounted sponge sandwich stand and a thermometer, from tho parents and

pupils. Mr Liggins expressed his thanks in suitable terms. Referring to those pupils who were leaving school, ho said that they should always remember that they were Rongotea pupils, and the school was not a bit ashamed to send them out for he knew they would always be a credit to tho school and to themselves. Mr TV. J. Amies, chairman of the school committe, then called for cheers for Mr Liggins. He expressed regret in losing the headmaster and stated that Mr Liggins had always worked well for any scheme which the committee had started. Mr Liggins, on behalf of the girls’ hockey team (which had such a creditable season last year) presented Mr A. C. Fades with a small token, in recognition of his services as coach. A dainty afternoon tea was then served by the ladies, for whom Mr J. Glover senr., in a short speech, passed a hearty vote of thanks. The proceedings were brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
