Scottish Society Holds Bright Bailee
A scene of brightness and gaiety was presented in tho Cosmopolitan Hall on Wednesday evening when the Scottish Society held a special dance for the wind-up of their 11)30 season, tho proceeds of -which wore given to tho Society's building fund. A large crowd w r as in attendance and old and young spent a most enjoyable evening. A very pleasant feature was the number of novelty dances, among which woro the Monte Carlo and tho Slipper Dance, which afforded great merriment, extras were played by Mrs. Long and Pipers E. Smith and Godbaz. During tho evening banjo solos w'ere played by Mr. Penketh, and Miss M. Howard gave a splendid exhibition of the Irish Jig and Sailor’s Hornpipe, both artists being well applauded. A waltzing competition, for w'hich there was a large number of entries, was judged by Miss Jean Muir, the prize-winners being Air. Kjar and Miss Yardley. The Lucky Spot waltz was won by Mr. Smith and Miss Walton, while Mr. Holdsworth and Miss Hastings carried off the prizes for tho Monte Carlo waltz. Towards the close of the dance, Mr. Jenkinson, on behalf of the Scottish Society, thanked all present for their attendance and wished them the compliments of the season. He announced the winners of the cushion and brass bowl competition, which were in connection with a street stall for the building fund, held some weeks ago, Miss Munro, of Collinson and Cunningkame’s staff winning the cushion, and Mrs. McKinnon, of Church street, the bowl. The singing of “Auld Lang Sync" brought to a close a pleasant and successful season.
