Ballance W.I.

The monthly meeting of the Ballance W.I. held in the hall on December. 12, which proved a very pleasant and interesting afternoon for the members. Mrs. Harrison, of Pahiatua, gave very skillful demonstrations on raffia, r rug-making and other crafts, which wero much appreciated. Even the hum-ble-Sugar bag was converted into an ornamental rug by her clover lingers and ingenious mind, the finished article having the pile resembling mohair. The school girls wore also present and followed the demonstration with keen interest. The January meeting is to take the form or a social afternoon, the local school children being the guests of the Institute membe'fs." Competitions and musical items will be given, the compe- .- titions for members being something new from something old. The daintiest of afternoon tea was provided by the hostesses, Mrs Jones, Misses Gibson and McCarthy.
