BABBIT DESTRUCTION.

Tho Manawatu Babbit Board held
their monthly meeting at Foxton on Thursday afternoon. Thoso present Were Messrs. B. G. Gower (chairman), W. E. Barber, B. Grant, J. F. McKclvio, j*. A. Grammer, R. Boswell, J. Gloyn and tho secretary (Mr. B. Rangiehcua). The Board.’s Inspector (Mr. D. R. Barron) was also in attendance, while an ipology for absence was received from ‘.fr. F. C. Raikes. Reports. The secretary submitted a financial Statement giving details of receipts and expenditure over tho period Ist Apjil •to 15th Docember, which also disclosed the fact that the Board’s account'at ;he bank was in credit to the extent of £179 12s 2d.
The inspector, in a summary of his detailed report, stated that during tho past month he had been engaged in the general inspection of properties in tho Board area and in following up with personal inspection the properties the owners of which had been requested to icarry out further work in regard to rabbit destruction.
The district was still in very fair order although in certain cases young rabbits which had been missed were showing up on properties which had appeared to be fairly clear up to the present time. Tho weather had again been very unsuitable for rabbit destruction owing to the high prevailing winds but nevertheless a fair amount of fumigation had taken place and tho request .for work during the previous month bad all been carried out. Pollard had also been laid on several properties during the past month. A beginning had been mado on several properties during the month with clearing of noxious weeds. All Teiquests made for the clearing of boundtny Mnes adjoining clear properties J»A been carried out and on several p»pertifi« gorse and lupins were being cleared at the present timo. Observations were being taken from Itma to time of the results of the spraylag of blackberry and gorse and he hoped to have several experiments began in. different portions of the district within' the next week or so.
During the month he had sent out Statutory nonces required under the 'A«t to ell landowners in the Board area and these would be followed up with a personal inspection during the coming month. The report* were adopted and accounts amounting to £57 Is 4d were passed for payment. General.
The Department of Agriculture wrote requesting the Board to furnish them with estimates of the cost of the proposed work of rabbit destruction on the Rangitikei river bed land and islands in January next. After the matter had been briefly discussed, the Board Tesolved to endorse the secretary’s action in furnishing the Department with the necessary information. Season’s Greetings.
