Fines for Breaches of Dentistry Act

A “DENTAL TECHNICIAN.” Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Reserved judgment was given by Mr Hunt, 8.M., in the Magistrate’s Court in the cases brought by Mr H. D. Crump, secretary of the Auckland branch of the N.Z. Dental Association against unregistered dentists.

11. Ran was fined £5 Is and costa for practising dentistry when not being registered as a dentist under tho Dentistry Act of 190 S.

For a similar offence Sidney J. Hall was fined £2 and costs. A fine of a like amount was imposed on Hall in respect to a further charge of holding himself out by implication as being' prepared to practice dentistry in that he used the words “dental technician.” The amount of the penalty in the ease of Rau was increased in order that an appeal might be lodged. In referring to Hull’s case Mr Hunt said it was clear from tho evidence that the defendant used tho word “technician” to delude the public into thinking that he was a qualified dentist'. Tho Act was designed for the purpose of protecting the public and also young men who had to pursue lengthy studies to qualify as dentists.
