Further Funds for Foxton’s Unemployed

FOXTON, Last Night,
At a meeting of the Foxton unemployment committee held last night tho secretary, Mr. W. Trueman, reported that he ha.d just received a telegram from the Unemployment Commissioner, advising that the Board had sanctioned a further allotment of £IOO (the second) towards relief work in Foxton under the No. 2 scheme. Ho further reported that the first allotment of £IOO under this scheme had been fully expended and that additional applications from private employers amounting to £75 were already in hand and that further applications were coming in freely. In view of this the committee authorised the secretary to apply for further allotments of £IOO as required.
WORE ON HIMITANGISANSON ROAD TO COMMENCE ON MONDAY MORNING.
During the meeting Mr. Bond (engineer) rang through from Sanson stating that twelve men from Foxton wero required to report at Sanson on Monday morning for immediate work on the Himitangi-Sanson highway. Tho comTucnccment of this work is tho outcome
of the decision of the Main Highways Board, as announced in Thursday’s issue, to grant a subsidy of £IOOO in connection with this work and tho officials of the Mauawatu County Council arc sparing themselves no effort in their endeavours to get the men started.
Important Conference at Palmerston N.
The chairman, Mr. M. E. Perreau, read a telegram he had just received from Mr. »T. A. Nash, M.P., which stated r that Mr. P. J. Small, of the Unemployment Board, had requested him to call a special meeting of the Mayors of Palmerston North, Foxton, Shannon, and Levin, to be held in Palmerston North, at 2.30 p.m. to-day, when especially urgent business would be discussed.
