Bunnythorpe School Annual Break-up

ANNUAL BREAK-UP. The annual breaking-up of the Bunnythorpe School took placo yesterday. There was a good attendance of parents and friends. The afternoon began with a sports programme on tho recreation grounds after which an adjournment-' was mado to tho school where the presentation of the prizes was to be made. Air Alaxwell (chairman of the School Committee) spoke congratulating the teaching staff on its good work during the year and the scholars on their work. He regretted that as there was not so much finance forthcoming thero could be no picnic as in former years, but there was enough to enable the children to have their races 'and prizes as usual He then called for three cheers from the infants for Mrs Peterson for arranging tho Christmas tree on Parents’ Day. Congratulations were extended to the headmaster, Air F. Patience, for getting all his candidates through the proficiency examination. Air Patience thanked Air Alaxwell for his remarks saying that the success of the scholars was due to the cooperation of tho other two teachers. He thanked the committee for its valuable assistance. Ho remarked on the great interest taken in the agricultural and calf clubs by Air Alaxwell and presented him with a badge of the agricultural club. Air Alaxwell was elected a life member of the agricultural clnb.

The prizes were then presented by Air Alaxwell, tho following being the prize list. Standard G: Dux (medal presented by Bunnythorpe Stores, Ltd) and won by Colin Fowler; 2nd, Eileen O’Donnell; 3rd, B-illie Squire. . Standard 5: Ist, Arthur Gee, 2nd, Bruce Kilmister; 3rd, Owen James. Standard 4: Ist, Kathleen Coomber; 2nd, Leila Powell; 3rd, Noel Mitchell. Standard 3: Ist, Alontieth Jepscn; 2nd, Noel Gunn; 3rd, Arthur Pauling. Standard 2: Ist, Alice O’Donnell; 2nd, Alollie Hill; 3rd, Alerlo Heggie. Afost improved scholar during tho year (donated by Mr G. H. Bennett, Palmerston North): Billie Squire. Gardens: (Cash prizes £1 Is donated by E. James and 5s by Air Eggleton): Boys: Ist, Colin Fowler and Frank MeCaffcry 2nd, Cecil and Owen James; 3rd, Ivan Gallop and AlacGregor Donald; 4th, Douglas Gore and Leunie Leeto. Girls: Ist, Eileen O’Donnell; 2nd, Alavis Wild; 3rd, Kathleen Coomber; 4th, Jean Cliectham. Sewing.—Std 6 (prize donated by Aliss A. Scheldt): Eileen O’Donnell. Std 5 (donated by Air G. H. Bennett): Zoo Jefferies.

Highest aggregate marks for the year (donated by Mr G. H. Bennett): Eileen O ’Donnell.

For selling most tickets for picture entertainment for the school funds. Trevor Beagley.

At the conclusion- of the prize-giving the children gave three hearty cheers for Mr Maxwell, then sang th e national Anthem and went home with happy hearts.
