Alcohol as Fuel
The Brazilian Government is seeking to popularise the use of alcohol a.s a motor fuel, and, judging from recent announcements from Rio dc Janeiro, is meeting with success. Alt official automobiles maintained by the State arc required to use this fuel, and it was reported that approximately GO per cent, of all cars now operating in Pernambuco are regular customers. Petroleum companies maintaining branches in Pernambuco report that the increasing use of alcohol fuel is affecting adversely the sale of petrol, in that territory. Alcohol fuel, which consists of a hixturc of cane alcohol and ether, is selling for approximately 3d. to 4d. per litre, where the prevailing price of petrol averaged around 9d.
