Rail and Road Coaches

A new typo of coach which, after running on tho railway track, can take to the road and transport its passengers into remote country districts, is to bo built by the London, Midland and .Scottish Railway. Work has already been started on the designs, and the first experimental run will be made during the summer in the neighbourhood of Derby. The cbaciies, which will each have accommodation for 50 passengers, will be used onlyl on the branch lines. Passengers will be able to book from a town on the main line right to the village "doorstep." Driven by petrol, the new rail omnibuses will be fitted with the usual flanged wheels for travel on the railway, but they will also have a contrivance by which pneumatic-tyred wheels ear be adjusted without delay.
