Work of Nursing Guild

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the District Nursing Guild was hold in tho Council chambers yestorday afternoon, Mr, J, A. Nash, M.P., presiding. There were also present Miosdames L. A. Abraham, S. Trask, Z. Gill, Cole, J. Aitckison (hon. secretary) and Miss Cunninghame (treasurer). Sister Farmer, district nurse, was also in attendance. Arising out of the minutes, the chairman reported that tho Borough Council had attended to tho footpath to the district nurse’s houso and expressed satisfaction with the good job that had been made of it.' An invitation from tho New Zealand Trained Nurses’ Association to attend an evening at tho nurses’ home on August 12 was gratefully accepted, Mrs. Trask and Miss Cunninghame being chosen to represent the guild. With regard to a letter from the Business Girls’ Lunch Oiub to tho district nurse and referred to the committee, asking for information regarding women and children in distress, it was agreed that Mrs. Aitchison should confer with Mrs. Christian. The Public Trust Office forwarded notification of a grant of £SO from the McCarthy Trust, which information was received with much satisfaction and gratitude. Mrs. Burnett, secretary of the Woodville Women’s Institute, wrote to inform the committee of a contribution of warm garments which it was hoped would prove useful. —Sister Farmar reported that a lovely collection of clothing had been received, and the secretary was instructed to write expressing the committee’s thanks. Thanks were also accorded the Rotary Club for valuable assistance. Nurse’s Report The district nurse’s report for July and August was as follows: 272 visiis paid to 50 patients; 19 new patients; 16 patients discharged; five patients sent to hospital; one sent to WiMrd Home; 28 carried forward to August. From Woods’ weighing machine, 1/3; donation of £1 1/- received from an anonymous friend. Donations of coal and blankets were gratefully received from the following: Mesdames Swallow, Timbs, Palmer, Binns, Price, Cheetham, Rushbrooke, De Rolles, Somerville, Duffell, Simmons, Cameron, Vincent, Sheppard, Stewart, Harkness, Falkiner, Sanson, Sankcy, Olds, Patton, Shepherd, Campbell, McLachlan, Bale, Wingate, Simmons, Ross, Walker, Waters, V/. Wallace, Harrison, Harris, Radford, Smith, Carsons, Williams, Akers, Small, Matthews, Palmer, Harman, Ireland, the Ladies’ Sewing Guild, the Woodville Women’s Institute and Misses Aitken,. Stewart and Linton; also a mattress, Mrs. C. Wood; knitting, Mesdames Stevens and Binns: soup, Miss Cheetham; cod liver oil, Mrs. N. Wallace; wool, Mrs. Walton; mattresses and beds, Mesdames Fitzherbert, Vincent, Perry and Mouldey; bread, cakes and scones, Mrs. H. Whitehead and the P.D.C. “I would like to express my sinccrest thanks and appreciation to the Rotary Club for tho distribution of wood and for the many parcels of clothing received from it, and also for tho new garments from the Manawatu hosiery factory, which have given much comfort and pleasure to many children. My thanks are also due to the boys of the College Street School for bagging up the wood donated by the Rotary Club.” Asked if she had anything further to report, Sister Farmar said there had been a wonderful response to the appeal for blankets made through the Times, and not only blankets had come forward ,but little covers and quilts made as suggested and covered with cretonne, for which she had been most thankful.
