Manawatu Golf club

BENEFIT TOURNAMENT NETTS £3O. The benefit tournament organised by the Manawatu Golf Club for assisting unemployment relief was played at llokowhitu during the week-end and in spite of the cold and boisterous weather received very good support from members of tho Manawatu and neighbouring clubs. The net proceeds amounted to approximately £3O. A very generous afternoon tea was provided by the Ladies’ Club, tho proceeds of which contributed substantially towards the sum realised, as well as affording a very pleasant finish to the day’s golf. Opportunity was also taken by the president (Mr. Alfred Seifert) to thank the golfers present for entering so responsively into the spirit of the occasion, and making the tournament a success. Thanks were returned to the patron, Mr. L. A. Abraham, for originating the idea and donating the trophies, to tho ladies for their practical assistance and co-operation, and to the club caterers for services cheerfully rendered. The trophies for the three competi-

tions were presented by Mrs. A. Seifert. In each event first places wore tied for anil necessitated a subsequent play-off. In the men’s four-ball tho pairs finishing level wero J. Duncan (AVeilington) and J. F. Justice, 40 —6—34, and I. Maeplierson and C. E. Bowen, 41—7—34, the win going finally to the first-mentioned. The ladies’ four-ball bogey resulted in all-square scores being returned by Miss AVood partnered with Miss Parsons and Mrs. Brookcr partnered with Mrs. Ekstedt, the latter pair being ultimately successful. The Canadian mixed foursome played in the afternoon attracted a large entry and finished with six pairs tying for first place as follows: F. C. Hay and Mrs. Trevor, 45 —6 —39; C. Uplram a net Mrs. Ekstedt, 43—4—39; C. G. Moore and Miss Moore, 43 —4—39; AV. Robert son and Mrs. P. I/. Sim, 445 —39; G. Eodden and Miss McMillan, 15—6 —39; K, Gicndinning and Miss AVood, 45—6—39. The event went finally to F. C. Hay and Mrs. Trevor. Mixed Foursomes. A mixed foursome contest was played at Hokowkitu on Saturday afternoon and attracted only a small entry. The best cards returned wero as follow: C. Upham and Mrs. Collinson, B(s—s—Sl; AV. E. AVinks and Mrs. Winks, 96—14—82; Taylor and Miss Scott, 91—8—S3.
