To Bulls and Back on Wheel
CYCLE ROAD RACE, In order that local riders may prepare themselves for the bigger races later on in tho season, tho course decided upon by the Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club for Saturday’s road racing was considerably lengthened. The race, which was tho tenth of the present season’s scries, was to Bulls and back—a distance of 38 miles. R. Sowcrby and A. Anderson were first to regain the starting point, and had a good sprint, for first place. O Hawkcs finished some time later, and he was followed by Lawrence, who put up the fastest time. McKcnzio and Earlier came next, AAA Pcdley not putting in b-u appearance at all at the finish. The following are the details of thc-l-acing, the riders’ handicaps being given in parentheses: — B. Hawkcs (18min.) 3 Tho fastest times recorded were:— LA Lawrence (3min.), lhr. 43miu. 39 4-oscc.; Anderson, lhr. 51min. -ISsec.: Sowcrby, lhr. 52min. 45scc. Also" started: I. McKenzie (13 min.), E. PROFESSIONAL EVENT. The Manawatu Counties Cash Cycling Club held a thirty-eight mile event on Saturday, tho course being from Palmerston North to Ashhurst, thenco to Feilding, back to Ashhurst and finishing at Palmerston North. Collins, off tho scratch mark, was responsible for a fine performance in heading the other competitors. Details of the race are as follow: AAA Collins (3min.), lhr. 51min. 46scc I S. AVard (20min.), 2hrs. ISmin. r* r . O - E. Burrell (19min.), 2krs. 16min. ° Also started: P. Larsen (21mins.). Collins had an exceptionally hard race and traversed most of the distance by himself. He overhauled the field, to whom he had conceded as much as 21mins., at Bunnytborpc, on tho return journey, and made fastest time.
