METROPOLIS WIN 39—22. United Press Association.—By Eleetri* ‘Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 3. There wero five thousand spectators at (ho Lcaguo match, Metropolis v. New Zealand, on the sports ground. A cold westerly blew across tho - field. Tho homo side won 39 to 22. Tho tourists had the best of the early portion of a game that is best described as ragged. Tho first spell end Metropolis IS, Now Zealand 9, in which Dufty had kicked a couple cf penalty goals. Poor handling robbed tho New Zealanders of several opportunities. In tho second half tho game bccamo warmly contested and Trcwceke and Caldcr were ordered off for rough play. Tittlcton and Scagar each scored after fine runs, even the speediest of their opponents failing to arrest them. Dufty converted both. Busch added two more tries and Justice one to the Metropolis total, one of which wqs converted by Hardy. Abbott crossed the line for New Zealand and tho game ended: Metropolis 39 , New Zealand 22
