•' SKIPPER.” Many years have passed since Win, Betton Crump, in green and white jersey, wielded a hockey stick as captain of Manawatu representatives, yet PalmerStonians who followed the game in pre-war days have not forgotten his exploits and the money occasions on which he led his eleven to victory. A popular “skipper” was Bill Crump who in more recent years has proved equally genial on the howling green whero ho skips in another capacity. At the monthly meeting of the Farmers’ Union executive ou Saturday Mr 0. P. Lynch paid tribute to the late Mr L. G. Maul who had been a member of tho union. Mr Maul had brought life and vigour into the meetings, and had also evinced considerable interest in matters affecting farmers generally. Other members endorsed the chairman’s remarks and a motion of sympathy was passed by standing in silence. The funeral of the late Mr. P. W. Barnard took placo yesterday afternoon when a large gathering of citizens piaid their last respects to deceased. Wreaths and floral emblems in profusion wore laid upon the grave, including tributes from the Palmerston North City Coun. cil, Gasworks staff, Brownies, Girl Guides, Palmerston North Fire Brigade, College Street School (Std. V.). College Street School committees, Combined Schools Committee, Central School Committee, Opera House staff, outside staff of the gas and electricity departments and others. The pall-bcar-ers were: Messrs. W. Cutler and W. It. Taylor (College Street School), J. K. ITardic and Crozier (Borough Council), E. Butcher and A. Gordon (Fire Brigrade). Canon Woodward conducted the services at All Saints’ Church and at the graveside.
