BBBBINGTON SHIELD .MATCH. " DANNEVIRKE DEFEAT BUSH . 14-r-3. . From Our Own Correspondent. Tho Bebbington Shield match between Dannevirke and Bush was played on Wednesday at Pahiatua on a sloppy ground with bitterly cold weather and heavy rain falling at intervals. The game was a forward one throughout, tho backs having very little chance of handling the ball. Bush for. wards were, on the whole, a heavies pack than'. Dannevirke, but the visiting forwards made up for any lack of weight by. a good combination. Tho teams lined out as follows: — Dannevirke: Vartan, Mills, Brogan, Ellingham, Setford (capt.), Grant, Cook, O. Crooks, Pearson, Bonne, Sewell, French, T. Harvey, D. Ellingham, Piper. Bush: Reeves, Woolland, Humphrey, G. Harris, P. Herbert, J. McShorry, M. Galvin, Millar, Olliver, Moynahan, Ger-' rard, Mahoney, Mabey, Rutherford, J. Galvin. Tha Gama.

Dannevirke set tho ball going and play for some time was on the Dannevirke sido of half-way. An infringement by Dannevirke gave a shot at goal which failed. Dannovirke forwards showed bustling tactics and carried play to Bush territory but Bush forwards broke through with tho ball at their toes. Play settled down again in Dannevirke territory. T. Dannevirke forwards raided and picking from the scrum in tho Bush twenty-five gave Grant a shot at goal, but his kick failed badly in direction. P. Humphrey marked and found the line between half-way and the home twenty-five. A free kick to Bush saw P. Herbert find the line in Dannevirke territory with a nice kick. Bush forwards pressed and a line-out took place almost on Dannevirke’s line. From tho line-out Dannevirke forced. From near halfway Reeves for Bush found the line near the Dannevirke corner. From the line-out a free kick to Dannevirke, but a man in front brought them back for a scrum from which Dannovirke cleared the line. Dannevirke forwards pressed and Bush set their backs in motion, but found difficulty in handling and lost possession and Brogan cleared to the line.. From a scrum in Dannevirke’s twenty-five Brogan in dribbling round sent the ball over the goal-line and Mahoney dropped on it. Reeve’s kick failed: Bush 3, Dannevirke nil. Dannevirke opened a slippery dribbling rushy but off-side play spoiled the effort and Bnsh cleared. Half-time was then sounded.

Second Spell. Both forward packs opened with brisk work, neither side having much advantage. Play for a spell was midfield until Vartan found the line at the Dannevirke twenty-five. Yellow forwards pressed but Bush cleared to halfway. Yellow forwards pressed hard and approached the line where they went over in a bunch. They had some defenders then, however, and a scrum at 5 yards was ordered. From the scrum a free kick to Dannevirke saw Grant send the ball nicely between the posts. 3—all. Yellow forwards again attacked and a serum took place emse to the Bush lino. Dannevirxd secured and French succeeded in crossing the line. Setford converted: Dannevirke 8, Bush 3. Bush attacked and play went to thG visitors’ twenty-five, where play was held up for a few minutes through an injury to Sowell. A series of line-outs took-place outside yellow’s twenty-five. Yellows attacked and entered Bush territory. whore Harris missed a catch and yellow forwards went away in a bunch. The ball went over the dead ball line, however. Following an infringement by Bush at half-way Secford found the line nicely inside the Bush twenty-five, but Bush were able to clear to half-way again. Dannevirke forwards set off again and the ball went to tho backs who lost possession. Setford in support went over with the ball at his toe, but the try was nullified by a forward pass previously and reds cleared from'the scrum. Yellows pressed again and off-side play by Bush saw Setford send it nicely between the posts: Dannevirke 11, Bush 3. Yellow forwards pushed hard, but a mark by Reeves gave Bush relief and a scries of line-outs took place mid-field. From a line-out Dannevirke secured and Cook transferred to Mills, who kicked through. A Bush player tried to take it, but the ball bounced from him and went over. Mills following dropped on it. Setford’s kick failed: Dannevirke 34, Bush 3. With a free kick near half-way Grant took, a shot at goal, but his kick went low. From a scrummage mid-field yellows secured and tho ball went to Mills, who was forced out. Reds pressed but yellows broke through and play remained midfield for a spell, until Dannevirke backs secured and the ball went to Setford, who found the line at the Bush twenty-five. Yellows again pressed and a scrum took place a few yards out. Bush cleared from the serum and the red forwards set out, but off-side play allowed Set. ford to find tho line in Bush territory, Time was called with Dannevirke is Bush-territory.
