Chamber of Commerce Monthly Meeting

CORRESPONDENCE CONSIDERED Tho Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce mot. on Tuesday, Mr. M,. M. Oram presiding over a small attendance of members. The Auckland Land Settlement League wrote thanking the president of tho chamber (Mr. M. H. Oram) for assistance rendered by him on the nccasion of the visit of the league’s delegation to Palmerston North. The samo body advised that a meeting of the league would' be held in Auckland on June 16 and asked for tho attendance of a delegate from the chamber.

No members could be found to represent the chamber, and it was decided to thank the league for its invitation and to notify it that, the Palmerston North chamber regretted that it could not send a delegate. The Hastings Chamber of Commerce wrote suggesting that a further effort should be made to stress the need for tho preservation of tho forest on, both sides of the new road from To Whaiti to Waikaremoana. The most important objectives of (his action would be the preservation of the natural scenic beauty, the conservation of (he water supply that fed Lake Waikaremoana and (he protection of native bird life. It was suggested that (lie chamber should consider (lie advisability of setting up a committee lo obtain all information available and to bring the matter prominently before the members of Parliament representing the district.

Mr. Oram stated that the road went through some of the finest native bush hi New Zealand and it would be a great pity if anything were done to disturb this bush and the conservation of the water supply. It was decided to write to the Hastings chamber, assuring it of the Palmerston North chamber's support, amt to bring the matter under the notice of Messrs. J. A. Nash, J. Linklater and Field, M’s.P. In this connection it was decided to write to the Taihape chamber inquiring what slops were being taken for the. improvement of the Wniouru-To-kaanu road,
