Attempt to Burn House is Admitted by Occupier

CONSIDERED HE WAS ROBBED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. “I consider I was robbed as far as the price of t.he house was concerned, and on account of this worry and from sickness, I decided to burn tho house down Avhon my wife and family were away,'’ said Edward Harold Alexander, aged 27, a confectioner, in a statement to the police produced in the Police Court on Thursday. Alexander was charged with wilfully attempting to set lire to a house at Onehuuga owned by the Stato Advances Department and occupied by him.

Accused admitted the charge. Polico evidence was to tho effect that a neighbour discovered a candle had been left burning in the house. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said the accused would not have gained anything by the lire. Tho house was under a mortgage to the State Advances Department. Alexander was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence.
