Destitute Old Man’s Short Cut Over Grafton Bridge

GOODBYE, I’M A DONE MAN. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 24. Shortly beforo two o’eloek this afternoon, James Farrell, aged' between 65 and 70 years, scrambled over the parapet of Grafton bridge, above tUe deepest place and fell into tho gully far below. He was found in a dying state. He left a note in his pocket saying: “Goodbye, boys, I’m a done man." According to an eyewitness, Farrell ran along the pathway to the middle of the bridge. He then halted, dragged himself up on to the parapet and rolled over into space. The dead man lived at 05 Ponsonby road. Ho was evidently destitute, judging by his poor clothing and the fact that his boots were in tatters. A first aid outfit and a stretcher were immediately taken to tho foot of the gully but tho man was dead.
