Man Granted Liquor Monopoly by Mates
WHISKY AND WATER. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, April 24. An unusual case came beforo the magistrate, Mr. Lcvvy, this morning. Leslie George Hinton, a single man, aged 2G years, pleaded, guilty to selling liauor at Makarewa without a license. The evidence disclosed that defendant was employed at the Makarewa freezing works as a slaughterman and bought beer and whisky and retailed the liquor to the men. Ho put the beer in whisky bottles and sold"these at Jo 9d each and the whisky in flasks which were filled threcquartcrs f till and tho remainder with water. These ho sold at Ills. Senior-Sergeant Fox said that defendant was move foolish than criminal. Defendant was fined £O, the magis-n-atc remarking that ho would not treat the matter so seriously since defendant was acting on a request by hia workmates.
