DR. ROBERT BRIDGES. United Pres* Association.—By Electric Telegraph-—Copyright. LONDON, April 21. Tho death has oocurred of the Poet Laureate, Dr. Robert Bridges, aged BG. Ho had been Poet Laureate since 1913 and had tho Order of Merit conferred on him last year. Dr. Bridges’ output of pocm3 and plays was neither very large nor very constant hut his work could be judged uniformly by tho highest standard. For a while he practised mo'dicine, after travelling in Europe. Among his most notable longer poems aro the Growth of Love, Prometheus the Firegiver, Eros and Psycho and the Chilswelt Book of English Poetry. He wrote numerous critical essays and his plays, all in the classical mode, included Nero, Palicio, Ulysses, Christian Captives, Feast of Bacchus and Achillc3 in Scyros. Ho married a daughter of the lata Alfred Waterhouse R.A., and also leaves one son and a daughter.
