Mud as Fertiliser
UTILISING THAMES FLATS. A suggestion that the mud on the Thames fiats might be used as a fertiliser was made to the Thames Harbour Board. In making the suggestion a Mangatarata settler, referring to the mud, said: “I suggest that you. have it tested for its value as a fertiliser, and if it is lacking in anything that promotes the growth of pastures, add the missing ingredients, and you have a valuable product and a cheap harbour. If the scheme is any good I will show you a cheap method of reclaiming it.” The chairman, Mr H. Lowe, said the suggestion might be a good one, and the board should have the mud tested at the. School of Mines. It was decided to leave the question >f the Local Committee to-deal. with.
