An excellent open air concert was plfyed by the Palmerston Garrison Band on the : Showgrounds yesterday before a fair attendance of the public. The gate takings, however, were only £2l, compared with £44 on a similar occasion Ihst year. The band contributed the test pieces to be played at the Dunedin contest, including the quickstep. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the band, wished it best of luck at the contest and called for cheers, the audience responding lustily. The band will play at Terrace End park this evening. _ v

All Wellington cricket matches were postponed on Saturday, owing to rain. R. J. Webster did not attempt his Cook Strait swim on Saturday or yesterday. A five-seiater Buick car belonging to Mr C. A. Small, of Newbury, disappeared off the parking area in Cuba street c-n Saturday night while the driver find passengers were at the pictures, and has not been seen or heard of since. The tank was half full of benzine, so the car would take whoever has converted it to his own use, a considerable distance. The registration number is 80-501 and the colour is buff. The health camp at Awapuni racecdurso is now well established, and Dr Blimbeth. Gunn reports that everything is going well, and the children are thoroughly happy in their ideal surroundings. A church, service was held yesterday morning, and was attended by the girls from the Flock House hostel. Mr J. A. Nash M.P., also was present, and addressed the children after the service. Next Saturday and Sunday afternoons will be occasions on which parents and the public may; .visit the camp.
