Thieves Find Concealed Takings in Shop
INVERCARGILL BURGLARY. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. Some time during the week-end, thieves broke into the premises of Messrs Schneideman’s Ltd., tailors, of Dee street, and stole notes and silver to the value of £63. Entrance was gained through the back door, which was forced, the slot of the bolt with which tho door was also secured being wrenched from the wood.
The shop was closed on Saturday night and the takings, amounting to a little over £63, were placed in a drawer, which in turn was hidden in an ordinary suit box. This was placed on top of other suit boxes in a screened-offi partition at the rear of the shop. It is understood that tho manager, Mr Edgar Wilson, visited the shop on Sunday morning at about 10.30 in order to collect some mail for posting, but he did not go into tho rear portion of tho premises and left everything apparently in order. Constables Kitchin and Kirk discovered that the premises had been broken into, when, at an early hour this morning, they investigated an open door leading on to the Grand Hotel right-of-way.
