World's Longest Double Track Tunnel in Italy

THROUGH THE APENI&INES,

United Press Association.—By Electric Tolegraph—Copyright. Received Thursday, 7 p.m. ROME, Dec. 4.

The boring of the longest doubletrack tunnel in the world was completed to-day. It penetrates the Apennines between Bologna and Florenco and cost £5,000,000, largely owing to the extraordinary hardness of the rock. Sixty-nine lives were lost in the course of the work, which reduces the journey from two and a half hours to an hour. The total cost was £9,000,000.
