In Divorce
DANNEVIRKE PETITIONS. On the grounds of desertion, Esther Evelyn Kirkman, of Dannevirke, (Mr. Dorrington) petitioned in the Palmerston North Supreme Court yesterday for divorce from John Samuel Kirkman, farmer, formerly of Timaru but whose address is now unknown. Petitioner said she was married at Timaru on April 2, 1919 and there was one child of the marriage. They resided at Timaru, Christchurch and Wellington. Plaintiff had left her prior to 1925 but in that year he told her to come back to him in Wellington where she would find a home. She arrived in Wellington on December 24, 1925 but there was no home nor did he have work. Three days later he sent her to his sister’s place where they lived as man and wife. In January he told her she could go again as he didn’t want her. He had only wanted her back for a day or two so that she could not divorce him under 3 years. Ever since she had had to support, herself. In August 192 G she filed a complaint for separation and maintenance but the police could not find correspondent. Robert Andrew Nichol, of Dannevirke, hotel proprietor, said Mrs. Kirkman had worked for him since 192>3 and witness had never seen a sign of respondent. A decree nisi with interm custody of the child was granted.
Decrees Absolute. A motion for a decree absolute was moved by Mr. Dorrington on behalf of Irene Selina Leslie, of Maharnhara together with a. petition for permanent maintenance from Peter James Leslie, farmer, of Ohakune. The decree was granted with maintenance at £2 per week. A decree absolute was also granted Charlotte McKinnon, of Dannevirke (Mr. Dorrington) in divorce from Cecil Frederick McKinnon, formerly of Dannevirke, but now of parts unknown.
